Sometimes, as writers, we’ve looked at a piece for so long we no longer see the errors. Or we’ve cut chapters down/out, added others, or rearranged. Maybe something’s missing now that we don’t see because we know the story so well our imaginations fill in the blanks. A fresh pair of eyes to find holes, question character motivation, find errors, etc. can be extremely useful.
We sometimes have beta readers and even professional editors give us conflicting advice about what a book needs. As the author, you get the final say, obviously. My job is to help drive you to a product that engages your reader while providing you with satisfaction.
